Amalgus Lariphonus (Amal) is a well-known mage of the island of Willowchantia. Whether he arrived here from another world or was born on the island itself remains unknown. Sometimes it even feels as though he has always existed here. And despite the fact that nearly everyone knows him, there are moments when he simply disappears, as if he had never been there at all.

That is when your mind begins to wonder:

perhaps this man was only a dream.

His name almost completely reveals his true nature.

Amalgus comes from the word “Amalgam” — a mixture of many different elements. It perfectly suits a mage who does not belong to one specific branch of magic. He seems to be made from fragments of many talents blended together. His personality is a strange cocktail of chaotic gifts, charisma, improvisation, and curiosity, which has made him an incredibly popular and respected teacher among students of the Magic Academies.

Lariphonus carries many associations within it. There is “Lark” — playfulness and lightness, “Lyric” — musicality, and “Phonos” — sound, voice, music. And this is hardly accidental. Amal absolutely loves singing and often invents songs of his own. He makes friends easily, naturally becomes the center of attention in conversations, and carries an effortless charm wherever he goes.

His magic feels so light and natural that some people mistake him not for a sorcerer, but for a stage illusionist.

In the evenings, Amal enjoys spending time with a glass of plum beer while absentmindedly crunching on a poppy seed bagel. One might even say that poppy pastries are his greatest weakness.

Well… perhaps not his greatest.

There is another weakness he possesses.

Amal falls in love remarkably quickly. Yet he loses interest just as easily. At the moment, he has no partner, and some of his friends jokingly place bets on who his next romance will be with: a blonde or a brunette.

There is also one more ability of Amalgus Lariphonus that people rarely discuss openly.

He is a spatial traveler.

His body possesses a rare property. People like him can sense spatial anomalies and hidden passages with unnatural precision, and, most importantly, they tolerate journeys through time and space with surprising ease. Naturally, Amal collaborates with the scientists of Foggy Fracture. But that is a story for another time.

Still, there is one detail worth remembering.

Some suspect that Amalgus has already crossed the boundaries of time itself. That he walks in circles between different eras, appearing in separate corners of the island almost simultaneously through temporal jumps.

Or perhaps he simply has a double.

Who knows.

Personally, I would call him Mister X.
For despite the brightness of his personality, there is something deeply mysterious about him.

And I have a feeling that many adventures with Mister Lariphonus still await us ahead.

Амальгус Ларіфонус (Амаль) — відомий маг острова Вілловчантія. Чи він колись прибув сюди з іншого світу, чи народився на самому острові — достеменно невідомо. Іноді навіть здається, що він існував тут завжди. Хоча Амаля знає майже кожен, час від часу він просто зникає — так, ніби його ніколи й не було. І тоді мимоволі ловиш себе на думці: а може, цей чоловік просто наснився?

Його ім’я майже повністю розкриває його сутність.

Амальгус (Amalgus) походить від слова “Amalgam” — амальгама, суміш різних елементів. Це ідеально пасує магу, який не має одного чіткого напряму сили. Він ніби створений із хаотичного поєднання талантів. Його особистість — дивний коктейль здібностей, харизми та імпровізації, що зробило Амаля надзвичайно популярним і авторитетним викладачем серед студентів Академій Магії.

Ларіфонус (Lariphonus) теж приховує чимало асоціацій. Тут і “Lark” — грайливість та легкість, і “Lyric” — музичність, і “Phonos” — звук, голос, музика. І це зовсім не випадково. Амальгус обожнює співати та часто сам вигадує пісні. Він легко заводить знайомства, швидко стає душею компанії та майже завжди випромінює невимушеність.

Його магія настільки легка й природна, що дехто вважає його не чарівником, а радше фокусником-ілюзіоністом.

Вечорами Амаль любить проводити час із келихом сливового пива, похрустуючи рогаликом із маком. І, мабуть, саме макова випічка є його найбільшою слабкістю.

Втім… ні.

Є в нього й інша слабкість.

Амаль надзвичайно легко закохується. Але так само швидко втрачає інтерес до предмета свого захоплення. Наразі він не має пари, а дехто з його друзів навіть жартома влаштовує ставки: хто стане його наступним коханням — блондинка чи брюнетка.

Є ще одна особливість Амальгуса Ларіфонуса, про яку зазвичай не говорять уголос на кожному перехресті.

Він — просторовий мандрівник.

Його тіло має рідкісну властивість: такі люди тонко відчувають просторові аномалії та переходи, а головне — напрочуд легко переносять подорожі крізь час і простір. Саме тому Амальгус співпрацює з науковцями міста Туманний Злам. Втім, це вже зовсім інша історія.

Хоча… про одну деталь усе ж варто пам’ятати.

Дехто підозрює, що Амальгус давно переступив межу часу. Що він ходить по колу між епохами, з’являючись у різних куточках острова майже одночасно завдяки часовим стрибкам.

А можливо, у нього просто є двійник.

Хто знає.

Особисто я назвала б його Містером Х. Надто вже загадкова це постать, попри всю яскравість його образу.

І щось підказує мені, що попереду на нас чекає ще чимало пригод із містером Ларіфонусом.
