I. CHILDHOOD AND THE DREAM OF THE SEA
His surname echoes the rustle of sea waves — shore-born. Perhaps this is no coincidence, for Govalmir was born in the outskirts near the Bronze Coast, into the family of a renowned captain of the four-masted caravel Sirena.
From early childhood, the sea was his greatest passion. He could spend hours sitting on the rocks, listening to the sound of the waves, as if they were trying to tell him something. Every time he met his father at the harbor, the boy imagined himself either at the captain’s bridge behind the helm or as a sailor pulling the sails.
Of course, his father was not against it and promised to become his mentor. But fate placed the first stone in his path — a terrible seasickness. Every attempt to go out to sea ended the same way: he could barely stay on his feet.
Then the boy decided:
“If I cannot go to the sea — I will live beside it.”
II. THE PATH TO THE ACADEMY: DRAGONS AND KNOWLEDGE
In the mornings, the boy studied basic sciences, and after lunch he ran to the harbor to help the workers. It was there that Navenas Khramaarch, the curator of magical education, noticed Govalmir, recognized his talent, and offered him a place at one of the Academies of the Guild of Mages and Wizards.
Thus, a new path began.
In his youth, two more passions revealed themselves — magic and dragons. Especially captivating were three rare disciplines: dragon studies, dracomancy, and a course available only to the chosen — dragon slaying.
Dragon slaying in Sailaronia did not mean “killing dragons.”
It was a discipline of survival tactics, diplomacy of force, and understanding the behavior of ancient beings. In a world where violence was forbidden, students were taught only what was necessary for protection.
Govalmir Shoreborn proved to be a gifted student. After completing his studies, the talented mage was invited to become an instructor.
III. THE GREAT CONFLICT OF THE TWO RIDGES
The measured and somewhat carefree life of a scholar was shattered by tragic events.
One day, the world changed.
A conflict erupted between the Dragons of the Northern Ridge and the Southern Ridge — ideological and irreconcilable — leading to a geological collapse. The Northerners, attempting to seize the southern territory, awakened a dormant volcano. The eruption was so sudden and powerful that the Great Island was destroyed.
The strongest mages were summoned for a rescue operation. But the Northerners, driven by their blind stubbornness, chose battle over rescue, attempting to sabotage the evacuation teams.
As the island was torn apart piece by piece, a battle raged against those intoxicated by a dictator’s influence.
Many perished that day, and very few dragons were saved.
(But that is another story.)
IV. RESCUE. THE WOUND THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Govalmir took part in the rescue operation. As one of the finest dragon slayers, he managed to repel several hostile squads with magic while incubators were being evacuated. The Southerners understood that the portals could not withstand massive transport — especially of dragons — and pleaded to save at least the eggs, to restore the population later.
The mission was nearly complete. They had to withdraw, as the land was splitting apart and sinking into the depths of the ocean. And at that very moment, when only a few steps remained before the portal, a massive dragon attacked Govalmir, trying to stop the rescue of the incubators. The mage prevailed — but suffered a severe injury to his right arm.
Healers were able to restore muscle and mobility, but even magic could not regenerate the nerve pathways required to connect with a magical wand. His wand no longer obeyed his right hand.
How he regretted not listening to the elder mages’ advice to train with the wand in both hands — true symbiosis requires years.
For a mage, this meant one thing — the end of a career.
But not the end of life.

ҐОВАЛЬМІР ШОРБОРН — друг моря і тих, хто загубився між світами.
I. ДИТИНСТВО ТА МРІЯ ПРО МОРЕ
Його прізвище нагадує шурхіт морських хвиль — шорн-борн. Мабуть, це не випадково, бо Ґовальмір народився в передмісті поблизу Бронзового Берега, у родині відомого капітана чотиримачтової каравели “Сирена”.
З раннього дитинства море було його найбільшою пристрастю: він годинами сидів на каменях, слухаючи шум хвиль, ніби вони намагалися щось йому розповісти. Кожного разу, зустрічаючи в порту батька, хлопчик уявляв себе то на капітанському мостику за штурвалом, то матросом, що натягує паруси.
Звісно, батько був не проти і пообіцяв стати його наставником. Та доля підклала перший камінь на шлях — жахлива морська хвороба. Кожна спроба вийти у плавання закінчувалась одним і тим самим: він ледве тримався на ногах.
Тоді хлопець вирішив:
“Якщо не можу піти в море — я буду жити поруч із ним.”
II. ШЛЯХ ДО АКАДЕМІЇ: ДРАКОНИ ТА НАУКА
Зранку хлопець навчався основним наукам, а після обіду біг у порт допомагати робітникам. Саме там Навенас Храмаарх, куратор магічної освіти, помітив Ґовальміра, відзначив його талант та запропонував вступити до однієї з Академій при Гільдії Магів та Чарівників.
Так почався новий шлях.
У юності відкрилися ще дві його пристрасті — магія та дракони. Особливо захопливими виявилися три рідкісні дисципліни: драконознавство, дракономагія, та курс, доступний лише обраним — драконоборство.
Драконоборство в Сейларонії не означало “вбивати драконів”.
Це була тактика виживання, дипломатія сили та розуміння поведінки древніх істот. У світі, де насильство заборонене, вчили лише тому, що було необхідним для захисту.
Ґовальмір Шорборн був здібним студентом. Після закінчення навчання талановитого мага запросили стати викладачем.
III. ВЕЛИКИЙ КОНФЛІКТ ДВОХ ХРЕБТІВ
Розмірене та дещо безтурботне життя науковця було перерване трагічними подіями.
Одного дня світ змінився.
Між Драконами Північного Хребта та Південного Хребта розгорівся конфлікт — ідеологічний, непримиренний, який призвів до геологічного колапсу. Північники, намагаючись захопити південну частину, розбудили сплячий вулкан. Виверження було настільки раптовим і сильним, що Великий Острів був зруйнований.
Найсильніші чарівники були залучені до рятувальної операції. Та північники, через свою тупу впертість, замість рятування вступили в бій, намагаючись зашкодити рятувальним командам.
Поки острів розривало на шматки, точився бій з одурманеними диктатором (тут буде ім’я з натяком на Кім Чен Ина).
Багато хто загинув того дня, а врятованих драконів було дуже мало. (Але це вже інша історія.)
IV. ПОРЯТУНОК. РАНА, ЯКА ЗМІНИЛА ЖИТТЯ
Ґовальмір брав участь у рятувальній операції. Як один з найкращих драконоборців, він зміг відбити чарами кілька загонів, що рятували інкубатори. Південники розуміли, що портали не витримають великого перенесення, тим паче драконів, і просили врятувати хоча б яйця, щоб відновити популяцію.
Місія була вже майже завершена — треба було згортатися, бо земля розколювалася на шмаття й занурювалася в глибини океану. І саме в цей момент, коли лишалося кілька кроків до порталу, на Ґовальміра накинувся величезний дракон, що намагався завадити спасінню інкубаторів. Чарівник переміг, але отримав важке поранення правої руки.
Лікарі змогли відновити м'язи і рухливість, але навіть магія не могла зростити нервові канали, потрібні для зв’язку з магічною паличкою. Його паличка більше не слухалась правиці.
Як же він пожалкував, що свого часу не дослухався порад старших магів щодо тренування володіння паличкою обома руками: для справжнього симбіозу потрібні роки.
Для мага це означає одне — кінець кар’єри.
Але не кінець життя.
